BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — A Canton man has been convicted in Boston federal court for defrauding Medicare out of more than $4 million, according to U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Krishna Gidwani, 55, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud.
As part of this plea, Gidwani admitted to running a durable medical equipment company that paid telemarketing companies for such equipment.
This included ankle, wrist, knee and back braces.
Many times, the Medicare beneficiaries didn’t need or want the equipment Gidwani and his co-conspirators shipped.
The doctors whose signatures appeared on the orders for the equipment often did not treat the beneficiaries or prescribe it.
Raju Sharma was one such co-conspirator who agreed to plead guilty to fraud conspiracy.
He will appear in court in September.
Gidwani will be sentenced on November 6.
