Nagpur: A delegation of education officers association met state education commissioner Sachindra Singh in Pune on Friday and registered their protest against alleged ‘high handedness’ of cops investigating the Shalarth ID scam in Nagpur. Across the state, education officials participated in either a pen-down strike or took leave as part of the protest.Sheshrao Bade, president of Akhil Maharashtra Rajya Shikshan Seva Rajpatrit Adhikari Sangh, said, “Today in Pune, we met the education commissioner and demanded that our officials can’t be randomly put behind bars. We have no problem with investigations, but first, at least find out the truth. What is happening now is that officials are being called for questioning and then arrested.” He said if based on ‘suspicion’ officials get put behind bars then “there won’t be anyone left to do the work”. Bade said, “We want the govt to issue a circular saying such random arrests won’t happen.”The association warned that if the government does not issue a written assurance on this demand, all officers across the state will launch an indefinite strike from August 8. Bade added that unless the government assumes responsibility for protecting its officers, no official will sign salary bills, and officers will boycott additional work, including assignments during holidays after the August 8 deadline.This agitation comes just two days after both education officers (primary and secondary) for Nagpur district were arrested by cops in relation to the Shalarth ID scam. The court sent S Keluse and Rohini Kumbhar to judicial custody on Wednesday.
