The Cuyahoga County Fair is gearing up to welcome back Scamo, the educational game that aims to arm attendees against the wiles of cunning scammers. Accustomed to the initial run’s enthusiasm, the fair is hosting the bingo-style game every weekday as it stages a return this year. Scamo is tailored not only for the young but also for the elderly, ensuring a broad demographic can benefit from the event.
Reflecting on the revised schedule, Sheryl Harris, Director of the Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs, said, “Last year, we played Scamo at the fair on opening day, but so many people asked for the chance to play on other days that, this year, we decided to offer it Tuesday through Friday.” The Scamo games will be held daily at 3 p.m. from Aug. 5 through Aug. 8, in the atmospheric surroundings of the Fairground’s Olde Barn Pavilion, located at 19201 East Bagley Road, Middleburg Heights, according to Cuyahoga County’s official news release.
Entry to Scamo Bingo comes at no additional cost beyond the fair admission, a move that underscores the organizers’ commitment to accessible consumer education. All materials needed to partake in this gamified learning experience will be provided on-site. Those interested should note that seating follows a first-come, first-served protocol, making promptness a virtue worth embracing.
This initiative is underpinned by funding from the Sears Consumer Protection and Education Fund, a gesture of goodwill from the conglomerate facilitated by the collective efforts of the 50 state attorneys general. Scamo’s content isn’t just speculative, it’s mined from the experience and expertise of the county’s multi-agency Scam Squad task force, ensuring that participants are learning from seasoned veterans in the battle against fraud.
